venice is the capital of the veneto region and the metropolitan city of venice, bearing the nickname la serenissima ('the most serene'). venice and its lagoon have been on the unesco world heritage list since 1987. they especially inspired artists, and venice became one of the most visited cities by tourists. venice has approximately 175 canals with a total length of about 38km. the main traffic artery is the canal grande, plus many waterways outside the historic center. this floating city should be on everyone's bucket list.
