southern styria is also called the 'styrian tuscany' because of its hilly landscape and excellent wine. the hallmark of the region is the schilcher wine. especially in autumn, high-pressure systems from the adriatic sea cause the weather to be noticeably milder than in the more northerly areas of central styria.
